They're called rain lillies and my mom gave them to me to plant.

 

Mother's Day

Last weekend we went to Albany, GA, for a mother's day dinner for my great-grandmother. We had a good time (for that kind of event). We got to see most of my mother's family. Wade had never met my great-grandmother because she's 90 years old and in a nursing home there in Albany. As the two youngest great-great-grandchildren, Abby and Lilly Kate were a big hit.

Here's to you, Mrs. Robinson...

Really, the title has nothing to do with what I'm writing; it just popped into my head. Can you believe I've decided to come out of domestic boringness to update? It seems that Wade and I have become grownups when I wasn't looking. Our days usually go something like this: we get up and go to work, come home, Wade works outside some, I cook supper (like a good little wife), we watch tv and talk about our day, then go to bed only to start over the next day. We don't even sleep late on the weekends anymore--we get up and do yard work or go grocery shopping or clean house. Lately, we've found ourselves noticing other people's yards and flowers and trees and comparing them to ours. We say things like "Hey, I really like that yellow bush. We should get one and plant it by the ____." I mean Really, when did we become those grownups?

I guess we do still do some fun stuff. Last weekend--no wait, two weekends ago-- I went to Montgomery to see my good friends Josh, Jennifer, and Susan, and to play with little Lily. I was even so bold as to "cheat" with Susan at Risk (which I had never played before). Somehow, I don't think I'm meant to conquer the world--but I will follow Susan as she does. Remember, I'm a good colorer.

This past weekend Wade and Matt rode the motorcycles to Cheha. Wade "layed his down" again. On the mountain road. He could have gone down the mountain or hit a tree or some other unspeakable thing. Thankfully, he only slid in the pinestraw several feet and didn't really get hurt. He's just a little sore. Thank God for helmets and protective gear. No wonder wives worry about their husbands getting motorcycles.

On a completely different train of thought, I watched all of Iron-Jawed Angels yesterday. I made me want to comment to something Jennifer posted a while back. I think that there are some things you should do just because you can. Vote is one of them. I also think that educating yourself so that your vote isn't random goes along with that. Just think, women have only had the right to vote in this country for 86 years. That's really not that long. And black people have had that right for even less time. Watching the movie made me wonder where our passion has gone for things that really matter, things that will make a difference in the lives of everyday people generations from now. I hope we never forget and never lose respect for those who have gone before us lighting the way.
